Retro Christmas Scramble

I made a card for the Hero Arts Flickr Group 90 minute scramble this morning. The challenge was to make a card with non traditional colours. I based my card on the current Retro Sketch #35 and used Basic Grey's papers. I decided to use blues/greens and a slight hint of red. I used the MFT Dienamics Fishtail STAX die for the banner. This was won for submitting a card drive for Maddy by Jana Millen (I received the prizes two days ago). Thanks Jana! I made the card in under 60 minutes, a personal best! I'm also submitting this card to the Basic Grey - Anything Goes challenge and CAS-ual Fridays' Kraft On Challenge. Thanks for dropping by!

MT Washi Christmas

Back with a couple of really easy cards made with MT Washi tape. The first card was inspired by Kristina Werner's Holiday Card Series 2012 - Card 2. Details on how to make the card are on her website. I kept mine simple by just using a plain white card matted with a Green cardstock. The sentiment is from Darkroom Door. The second card was made by die cutting washi tape on cardboard. I made curved mountainsides with Basic Grey Aspen Frost. The first layer was directly adhered to the card, the second layer, along with trees were mounted on foam. No need to embellish this card as I wanted to leave it CAS. These cards were made for Paperpoint's (my favourite paper store) MT Washi Tape Contest contest on Facebook. The second card will be submitted to Hero Arts October Challenge Holiday Cards  and A Blog Named Hero's Clean Up Your Act. Thanks for dropping by!

October Sketch

The creative juices are overflowing this week. This card is based on the Hero Arts October sketch with colours from the Play Date Cafe challenge. I struggled with the colours for this card and finally decided to use the Distress Inks in an embossing folder to achieve the effect I wanted. After wet embossing, the card was sprayed with Perfect Pearls before being cut into even strips for the sketch. Thanks for dropping by!

Aspen Christmas 1

I was so excited to receive my order of Basic Grey's Aspen Frost paper and couldn't wait to start on my Christmas cards. The very first card I made was sent to Papercraft's World Card Making Day contest, so I cannot show it yet. The one I made is below, based on the BG sketch by Shari Carroll. I also used my new die from Memory Box  (this is going to be my new favourite die) and the die from the Hero Arts Holiday Cheer to cut the cute reindeer. I paper pieced a jumper for him! Check out the inside of the card! I've left the rest or the card plain so that I an submit this card into CAS-ual Fridays's Over the Edge challenge, A Blog named Hero's CAS challenge and Hero Arts October challenge.
Come back again tomorrow for another card I made on the weekend. Thanks for dropping by!

Retro Christmas

I'm glad that I am starting early this year with the Christmas cards! I couldn't resist trying out the Retro Sketch this week - it is so whimsical. I had problems with finding the right sized baubles as all my bauble stamps are too large for the sketch. I finally pulled out my Kaisercraft Turtle Dove 6x6 pads and found the baubles in there. They come already coated and so there is not much I needed to add to them. I also had a packet of matching diecuts which I used for the sentiment - there is absolutely no stamping in this card! It was so easy to make!

More WCMD2012 cards

Just popping back again with a couple of cards that were rejected by the recent Papercraft submission. I thought I would just submit them to the WCMD2012 challenge before it closes soon. The first card was  based on a sketch as part of the submission. The second card was a monochrome card made with stamping with the one colour. Both cards are below and their details are included. I'm also submitting the second card to Simon Says Stamp's Dies and/or Punches challenge, the current Hero Arts October sketch challenge and the CAS challenge at A Blog Named Hero. HA Scramble 50

After a very busy weekend, I managed to fit in a 90 minute Hero Arts scramble on the Flickr group hosted by fellow Aussie Chris Millar. I hosted one two weeks ago with a black and white Christmas theme and managed to flood the Flickr group with lots of B/W cards. Chris challenge yesterday was similar - Make a card using black as a background. I love using black on card. I used so much that my stash was all used up. It was lucky that I replenished some after the last scramble! I decided to use paper piecing for this challenge. The flower was stamped twice onto MME Indie Chic Ginger 6x6 papers and the flower and centres were fussy cut. The petals of the flowers were curled and the centre was mounted on foam tape. I added a lot of bling to the centre of the flower - maybe too much!! I also added some faux stitching to the edge of the card, a technique I picked up from Kristina Werner. I'm entering this last WCMD card to the Moxie Fab World Birthday challenge - it closes today. This is also a Clean and Simple card, so I'm adding it to the A Blog Named Hero CAS challenge. Thanks for dropping by!

I recently sent some cards for a card drive organised by Jana Millen. I just found out this morning that I won a prize pack for sending cards for the drive. I sent a card for Maddy, one for her sister Melanie and one for her parents. I was only just happy to participate in the drive, the prize is a bonus on top! Thanks Jana and Christine for organising it!

My Sister's 50th Birthday Present

After a very crazy weekend of birthdays - mine on Friday, my sister's 50th on Saturday and my brother-in-law's on Sunday, I finally have time to post my special project! This project was a request from my sister after seeing a printer tray I did for my neighbour's 50th last year. Even though I had asked for photos, there were none forthcoming. So I decided to select a series of photos I have taken from November last year until recently. We had a few significant family events during the year and some of those were reflected in the photo's. They included my cousin's wedding, my niece's 21st, the other nieces's Debutante Ball and my third niece's Confirmation. I purposely selected photos of just my sister and her family and included one photo of a rare occasion when my brother came back from Oman for his daughter's confirmation in Sydney. It is rare that we get a photo of the three siblings together with Mum. I decided to use Graphic 45's Olde Curiosity Shoppe for the project as I fell in love with it after seeing it in Brisbane earlier this year. Due to the weight, shipping the paper from the US is expensive, so I have been searching high and low for this paper. Finally, two weeks ago, a fellow crafter in Victoria listed this as one of the items she was selling so I snapped it up straight away. The papers arrived on Monday and I started working on the project on Tuesday night and had it finished by the end of the week. Boy, am I glad that I don't do this often! The number of hours that went into this project is equivalent to making 10 cards! Anyway she loved it when I gave it to her last night! Some details of the panels can be seen below. Thanks for dropping by!

My Sister's Birthday 1

I've been quiet all week as I have been on a big project for my sister's 50th birthday today. I will post the card first and check back tomorrow for the rest of the project. I don't want to reveal until she receives it tonight! The card is posted first as I wanted to submit it to Ellen Hutson's WCMD 2012 challenge due this afternoon. I used the sketch challenge for this card and the lovely Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe papers which I got from Random Acts of Creativity's clean out sale last week. It arrived just in time for my project.

Pink Chevron

I'm still recovering from World Card Making Day! There were so many blogs and cards uploaded on the weekend, it was hard to keep up. I just wanted to finish off a card that I started on the weekend and upload it to the last of the WCMD contests. I have an Off-the-page project which I want to finish off this week, can't wait to upload it next week. My card today has a pink theme to go with CAS-sual Fridays - For the Girls challenge. I combined it with the Hero Arts October sketch and the Trendwatch challenge in the Classroom. I based the design on a previous card I had made here. Hope you like it!

WCMD Holiday Cheer

I'm overwhelmed with the number of giveaways and challenges for World Card Making Day. This is my first time and I am having a really great time. I made one card in the morning yesterday and was planning to make more in the afternoon when all that got changed when I had to babysit my DH's two nieces. So I got them involved in making some cards! They made 6 birthday cards for their Nonnno (birthday today), their Dad, their cousin and a friend. The 12 year old was pretty good as she thought long and hard when planning her card. I gave the 7 year old a bit of a helping hand. We had fun but I only got to make one tag with them! After they left and the roast was in the oven, I dashed into my craft room and made a Christmas card that I have been experimenting with. I wanted to use the bright colours of the Seasonal Distress Inks, and guess what? They are no longer seasonal - announcement from Ranger yesterday! I used the Specialty Stamping paper (my first attempt with Neenah cardstock did not work) and inked up the card with three colours, stamped and embossed with glitter EP then spritzed with water. I was pretty pleased with the end result!

Crafting and babysitting at the same time!

Retro Flowers

Happy World Card Making Day! My day started off very well with an email from Paper Crafts Magazine, one of my submissions was accepted for Card Creations magazine (March 2013), this card cannot be published until the magazine comes out. Yay! I was so excited as this is my first paid publication call! To share the excitement, I had to make a card for WCMD! This card is based on the colours of CR84FN64 (Lt blue, yellow, green), the Retro sketch and the photo inspiration from Runway Inspired's Richard Chai Love Spring photo. I've been wanting to try stamping with the back of the cling stamps, so I pulled out the Sweet Threads stamp set and starting stamping away. Note to self - this technique does not work well if the images are not symmetrical! Anyway, I decided to go ahead with it anyway, I'm pleased with the results. What do you think? Thanks for dropping by!

Happy Birthday Dad!

I have a few masculine cards to make for birthdays this month, here is one for my Father-In-Law. As with all my masculine cards, I like to not add any embellishments and let the design stand out. I was intrigued by Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Trigger (see image below my card) and selected the Basic Grey Clippings paper pad for this card. This collection is perfect for a male card and it has letters I can cut out for the card (I made this one last month for a friend at work). This was a really easy and fun card to make!
